Be Set Free

Langhorne Slim (2009)

$49.99

“Be Set Free” was Langhorne Slim’s second album and is yet again another one that was around a lot when I was a kid. My parents listened to it before we did, as you might have gathered by reading through all of these albums on this site, they always had a big influence on my music taste. My parents were basically roadies for this band. Really, a lot of my family were fans of Langhorne Slim, and not just my immediate family. For some reason nearly the whole of my Mom’s side of the family were fans of these guys. It was something everyone seemed to have in common and we would all go to his concerts together when he was in the area. When we lived in Lawrence, Kansas after this album was released he came and played in a bar downtown and we all went. When my Aunt and Uncle hosted parties at their house for holidays songs like “Say Yes” or “Cinderella” were always being played.

My Dad would play “Be Set Free” for everyone on the guitar and we would all sing along. Really, when I hear songs from this album I am brought back to a time in my life where I saw that side of my family all of the time. Now we live so far away that I don’t get to see the very often but listening to these songs is a good reminder of them. I also haven’t listened to this album in so long, as I listen to it right now again its like I am 13 again because it really may have been that long since I heard most of these songs again and it is so so nostalgic.
